OUR VISION

A future where Afghan girls and women are free to learn, lead, and shape their lives, empowered by education and equal opportunity

OUR MISSION

To empower Afghan girls and women through access to modern and inclusive education and practical skills, while restoring their rights, strengthening their voices, and contributing to a more just and self-reliant society

Who We Are

Daughters of Afghanistan is a non-political, non-partisan, and independent nonprofit led by Afghan and American women. It was founded by Afghan women who survived the first Taliban regime (1996–2001) and secretly pursued education despite extreme risks. Their experiences inspired a belief that education is both a basic right and a powerful form of resistance. Today, the organization helps Afghan girls and women rebuild their futures through learning, resilience, and empowerment.

Background and Context

Afghanistan has endured more than 40 years of conflict, with women and girls suffering the most. Between the two Taliban regimes, many women made progress by gaining education, working in professional roles, and helping their communities. But since the Taliban returned in August 2021, these achievements have been reversed, as strict restrictions have greatly limited women’s rights, education, jobs, and participation in public life.

Why Support Us

Daughters of Afghanistan is led by Afghan women who have lived under Taliban rule and deeply understand the realities Afghan girls and women face today. Their lived experience and resilience make them strong advocates for change. Supporting DOA means investing in community-led solutions built for long-term impact, combining practical expertise with cultural understanding. Empowering Afghan women now is vital not only for Afghanistan, but for women’s rights worldwide. Without action, this crisis could grow even further—join us in shaping a better future.
